Biometrical changes in female genitalia during different stages of pregnancy in sheep.

2010
Biometry of different parts of gravid genitalia of sheep can be useful to determine the status of pregnancy. On the basis of whole - embryo length, crown- anus length and gestation period, 52 gravid genitalia of sheep ranging from 14 to 140 days of gestation and collected from the slaughterhouse, were divided into 5 groups. As the gestation was advanced the mean vaginal and cervical lengths increased non-significantly. The average lengths from cervix to left and right utero-tubal junction, from cervix to inter-cornual ligament and lengths of body of uterus increased significantly as the pregnancy advanced. The respective average length, breadth and thickness of left and right ovaries increased non-significantly up to 120 days of gestation and later on decreased significantly.
