Graphene Oxide as a photoluminated carrier

The auto-fluorescence of single sheets of graphene oxide (GO) excited over the range of 200 nm to 600 nm has been studied. The observed emission spectrum shows a number of peaks over the range of 400 nm to 700 nm. GO shows emission in three main fluorescence regions (blue, green and red). Fluorescence microscopy shows that the individual GO sheets reflect the excitation beam when different filter cubes was used. GO single sheets have the potential to be used as probes for dye free tracking in biological imaging.
