Uricolytic enzymes in cod sperm

Cod sperm produced 14C-uric acid when incubated in the presence of 14CO2, suggesting a de novo biosynthesis of purine by fish sperm. Extracts of the acetone powder of cod sperm showed activities of uricase, allantoinase, and allantoicase.
