Papillary Carcinoma of the Thyroid Seven Years After I-131 Therapy for Graves' Disease

1981
A 73-year-old woman was found to have an infiltrating papillary cancer of the thyroid seven years after she received 9.1 mCi of I-131 for treatment of Graves' hyperthyroidism. Details of 25 other cases in the literature are presented. The number of thyroid cancers found in patients previously treated with radioiodine is considerably less than would be anticipated by chance.
