The paradigm disruptive new energy storage Shuttle Battery™ technology

2017
CONNEXX SYSTEMS has invented Shuttle Battery™, a paradigm disruptive technology, to enable effective and cost-competitive energy storage for power utilities and consumer applications. Shuttle Battery™ is a patent-granted energy storage technology with an energy density of 7700 Wh/L. This is 14 times higher than the energy density of state-of-the-art Li-ion battery (550 Wh/L) and comparable to fossil fuel (10,000 Wh/L). Shuttle Battery™ generates energy from the reaction between iron and oxygen from air. Thus, the cost per energy of Shuttle Battery™ is reduced to 1/16 compared to Li-ion battery. Enclosure of iron and a small amount of water in the anode side enables continuous generation of hydrogen gas and subsequent reaction between hydrogen and oxygen during discharge. The reverse of these reactions enables iron regeneration during charge, making Shuttle Battery™ electrochemically rechargeable without relying on mechanical swapping of iron fuel. Moreover, unlike Li-ion batteries that use flammable non-aqueous electrolyte, Shuttle Battery™ is intrinsically safe because it is made of nonflammable materials. These characteristics of the new energy technology make it ideal as energy storage for large-scale applications such as power grid energy storage. Deployment of Shuttle Battery™ technology for power grid would enable the effective global energy transformation.
