TOWARDS IMPROVED CALIBRATION IN THE MEASUREMENT OF PARTIAL

An improved calibration strategy for partial discharge detectors in rotating machine applications can only be achieved once the propagation characteristics of partial discharge pulses are clearly understood thus enabling the calibration pulse to more accurately simulate the discharge pulse as it appears at the detector terminals. This paper reports the results of a pulse propagation study and discusses the available models which may be of use in explaining the observed phenomena.
