Rapid detection of piperine in pepper by ultra performance liquid chromatography

UPLC method was developed for determination of piperine in pepper.The sample was extracted with 95% methanol.The mobile phase was methanol/water(V/V is 70/30) and flow at 0.25 mL/min.The UV detection was performed at 343 nm.The retention time of piperine is 2.585 min.Detection linear range is 0.05~10.0 μg/mL and correlation coefficient r =0.9998.The average recoveries for spiked samples,0.4~4.0 g/100 g,is 90.5%~95.8%;and with a relative standard deviation of 0.56%~1.81%.Limit of quantification was found to be 0.008 g/100 g.The method is a simple,sensitive,reproducible and time-saving method for rapid detection of piperine in pepper
