Conclusion: Asidophilus ForteTM with prebiotics restricted facultatives in the PMEU. Neither probiotics nor prebiotics alone had this effect. The effect remained during different growth phases. Further studies are warranted for evaluating the impacts of various components of the prebiotic mixture. The supplementations could in vivo prevent bacterial overgrowth and balance the numbers of acid and neutral end-products producing facultatives, which could support food uptake.
