Research on Irregular Particle in Deep Sea Mining

2018
In deep sea mining, not very ore can be break into spherical particles. There may be bar-shaped and triangular particle. In this context, coupled calculations are performed by using EDEM -FLUENT is used for coupled calculations and the DEM is used in the calculation of solid-liquid two-phase flow. This method considers the collision among particles, so it can provide a new idea for the study of solid-liquid two-phase flow in deep-sea mining. By simulating the calculation of the irregular particles, it shows that the bar-shaped particles are very destructive in the liquid phase. In mining, bar-shaped particles must be controlled at less than 6% of the total mass of the solid phase to ensure the efficiency and fluency of the pipeline transportation. It is verified by experiments.
