Damage Effects of Sulfur Dioxide Derivatives Injection on DNA of Stomach Cells from Mice

2004
Sulfite and hydrosulfite are two kinds of sulfur dioxide derivatives in vivo. The damage effects of sulfur dioxide(SO_2)derivatives injection on DNA of stomach cells from mice were studied with the single cell microgel electrophoresis technique(Comet test). After exposure to SO_2 derivatives at 0 g/kg body weight,0.125 g/kg body weight,0.250 g/kg body weight,g/kg body weight, tail lengths of nuclear DNA of stomach cells from male mice were 1.14 μm,8.98 μm,14.33 μm,24.71 μm,and female mice were 1.20 μm,6.34 μm,12.67 μm,18.59 μm,respectively. The results showed that DNA damage of stomach cells was in a dose-dependent manner. The results indicated that DNA of stomach cells was sensitive to SO_2 derivatives, and DNA damage of the stomach cells from male mice was more serious than that from female mice, which remains to be further studied. These results lead us to conclusion:SO_2 pollution has a potential risk to damage genetic material DNA of stomach cells from mammalian animals.
