Design of Low Power Wireless Sensor for Reducing Wiring Complexity of Aircraft Engine Control System

2018
The complexity of a modern aircraft engine is ever increasing as a result of the attempts to enhance its reliability by encouraging the use of more number of redundant components in order to ensure safe operation of the engine. The high reliability design of an engine control unit such as a full authority digital engine control (FADEC) with excessive use of redundant sensors is posing a challenge of wiring these sensors. The present research work carried out in association with the gas turbine research establishment, under defence research development organization focuses on the implementation of wireless sensors for enhancing the reliability of engine control system and reducing the complexity by many folds. A low power wireless sensor is designed and fabricated with data management and multi node communication architecture to eliminate the wiring complexity of the FADEC systems.
