Treatment of nonpsychotic states of decompensation among oligophrenic patients including deviant forms of behavior

1987
A total of 509 in- and outpatients with oligophrenia have been studied over time. A multiple modality therapy selected with due consideration to the structure and pathogenetic mechanisms of psychopathological symptom formation was found to be essential in the treatment and prophylaxis of decompensatory states in patients. It is emphasized that psychopharmacotherapy is rather likely to cause side effects and complications. The authors, therefore, pay much attention to search for new combinations of psychotropic drugs and to the use of pharmacological preparations of other groups, in particular alpha- and beta-blockers, and libido inhibitors.
