Study on deformation and dynamic clearance of the injection mechanism under temperature control

In squeeze casting, changes of the clearance between punch and chamber under thermal-mechanical loading impact the injection process of greatly, including the stability and precision of the forming process. This study aims to control the changes of the dynamic clearance to ensure the smooth operation of the injection mechanism. A temperature control method by cooling punch was proposed, and two cases of vertical injection processes, cooling and non-cooling, were simulated during ten forming cycles, besides the corresponding actual experiment was carried out. The results of simulation and experience indicated that the temperature control method which primarily affected the punch’s deformation is effective and feasible.
