A process for producing polymeric compositions of vinyl alcohol, comprising: - a first stage in which it is carried out simultaneously, in a liquid reaction comprising a solution containing a vinyl carboxylate polymer, and, added to the solution a first metal alkoxide and / or an oligomer derived from metal alkoxide, the saponification of said vinyl carboxylate polymer and the reaction in which at least part of the functional groups contained in said metal alkoxide and / or oligomer participate, to obtain a composition polymer of vinyl alcohol, and - a second stage of preparing a solution containing the polymer composition of vinyl alcohol obtained in the first stage, adding to the solution a second metal alkoxide and / or oligomer derived from the metal alkoxide or other solution containing the metal alkoxide and / or the oligomer derived from the metal alkoxide co, to prepare a solution of intermediate product, and then the removal of the solvent from the solution obtained, to produce a polymeric composition of vinyl alcohol.
