Current algebra and P -wave pion-nucleon scattering
1969
P-wave π-N scattering is discussed using a technique similar to that used in current algebra. Sum rules obtained from the commutators [QαA,QβA=ieαβγQγV and [DαA(x, t),DβA(0,t)]=0 are combined together. Analogously the combination of the two sum rules obtained from the commutators [QαA,DβA]=0 and [DαA, (x,t),DβA(0,t)]=0 are considered. These two combined sum rules are saturated with the contribution of the pion, nucleon andN*(1236) resonance, neglecting all other possible states. Use is made of the fitted values of thep-wave scattering lengths and of thes-wave effective range to determine the pion-nucleon-N*(1236) coupling constant. The two results obtained are in agreement with each other and with the known value.
