Value of Preoperative Chemotherapy in the Management of Locoregional Esophageal Carcinoma

Esophageal cancer is the most common malignancy of the digestive system seen in our institution. In mid-1982 we initiated a phase I—II chemotherapy trial for therapy of patients with this disease. This report summarizes our experience in the surgical management of patients with malignancy limited to the esophagus following preoperative chemotherapy.
