Polarization creation by beam-foil interactions for projectile fragments produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions and NMR detection of short-lived β-emitting 39Ca

1988
Abstract For the NMR studies on short-lived β-radioactive nuclei, beam-foil interactions have been effectively applied for creation of nuclear polarization of the β emitters. In the present experiment, the beam-tilted foil interaction was successfully applied for NMR detections of β-emitting 39 Ca, which were produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions and implanted in the single crystal of CaF 2 . The result has shown its wider and universal applicability for various experimental studies using β-radioactive probes.
