Dynamic pilot power allocation in CDMA systems

2004
In this paper a new concept for the pilot power allocation in code division multiple access (CDMA) mobile communication systems is introduced. The drawback of current constant pilot power allocation is the so-called cell breathing effect. The introduced concept of a dynamic pilot power allocation scheme tries to adapt the actual pilot power according to the current load situation in the cell. Thus, on the one hand the radio emission can be reduced when the cell is in low loaded condition, and on the other hand more subscribers can be served in highly loaded cells. This results in an increased overall capacity of the CDMA system.
