Necessity of opening a new course in oral genetics and its preliminary teaching practice

With the interaction between medical genetics and other different disciplines, more attentions have been paid to oral genetics. Here we review the present status of teaching and research in oral genetics in China. The necessity of establishing oral genetics as a new course is discussed from the development of oral genetics itself, board research group, characteristic of oral genetics and standardization of oral genetics as a discipline. Preliminary teaching practice in course arrangement and writing a textbook of oral genetics are also introduced. Finally a course arrangement and teaching content of oral genetics are put forward. This paper provides some helpful suggestions on setting up oral genetics as a new course.
