The Relationship between the Clinicopathological Factors and the Effect of Chemotherapy in Patients with Epithelial Ovarian Carcinomas

2008
Objective:To explore the relationship between the clinicopathological factors and the effect of chemotherapy in patients with epithelial ovarian carcinomas(EOCs).Methods: 362 cases with EOCs in our hospital from 1985 to 2004 were analyzed by retrospective study. Results: The survival rates of 1-,2-,3-,4-,5-and 10-year were 84.99%,66.57%,57.87%,50.22%,46.70% and 35.73%,respectively;the median survival time was 48.75 months. The prognostic factors of EOCs and efficacy of chemotherapy were related to age, clinical stage, pathological types, histological grade, the size of residues, the cycles of chemotherapy, the interval time of chemotherapy and the dose-intensity of paclitaxel.COX proportional hazard model confirmed that the prognostic factors of EOCs were related to clinical stage, the size of residues, the degree of cell differentiation, and the cycles of chemotherapy by multiple factors analysis. Conclusions: FIGO stage, the size of residual tumor after primary operation, the degree of cell differentiation and chemotherapy cycles are the major independent prognostic factors of EOCs.Improving the earlier diagnosis to give the earlier treatment, regular, sufficient dosage, sufficient cycles and timely assistant chemotherapy are the necessary measures to improve the survival rates of EOCs.
