Research Progress of Correlation between Gestational Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome

Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)has common characteristics with metabolic syndrome(MS),often combined with obesity,insulin resistance,gestational hypertension,high cholesterol and other metabolic abnormalities.When GDM pregnant women are combined with MS,the adverse pregnancy outcomes incidence is still high if only simple control of blood glucose is done;women with a history of GDM have an increased risk of developing MS later in their life and the offsprings of GDM pregnant women have a high MS incidence,which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases.Since GDM and MS are closely related,active control of the metabolic abnormalities is beneficial to improve pregnancy outcomes along with the control of the blood sugar,which may improve prognosis of the GDM pregnant women and the offsprings.
