Quality of spirometry in primary care in Navarra (Spain)

2016
Aim: to asses the quality of spirometry in the primery care (PC) system of Navarra (Spain) and compare it with quality registred in a pulmonary functional laboratory (PFL). Methods: after doing a survey to all centers of PC in Navarre, and find a low use of spirometry (only 23% made more than 5 spirometries/week and 0% more than 20),we divided them into two groups depending on the number done ( 5s/W). Patients who never had done previously an spirometry played one in PC first and, in the same morning and without any bronchodilator intake, came to do a second one in our PFL using the same model of spirometer . All curves might be sent to us to evaluate not only the acceptability but also the repeatability. Lecture was blinded. We followed the quality classification recommended by Spanish Pulmonary Society (SEPAR)* that divide them into six classes, being A and B the best but considering enough good quality A,B or C. Results: 96 patients were included, age average 58,1±15, 48% men, 58 of them belonged to group I (>5s/week) and 38 to group II ( Conclusions: Quality in spirometries in Primary Care in our community is still improvable In our sample, quality in spirometries is related with the frequency of use Besides the efforts to improve skills , we have to try to implement it more extensively *Garcia Rio.
