Demonstration of Strategic-Grade Noise in an Optically Gated Laser-Driven Fiber Optic Gyroscope

2021
Dynamic phase biasing in a fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) using square-wave or serrodyne modulation introduces periodic spikes in the optical output that induce noise and drift. We report a laser-driven FOG in which these spikes are removed optically to achieve a record angular random walk of 62 μdeg/√h.
