Differenzierte Streuverteilung im Walde, ihre Ursachen und Folgen

In several stands of the Galio - Carpinetum in the Kaiserstuhl and in a Luzulo-Fagetum on the western foot of the Schruarzruald (Black Forest) quantitative microhabitat investigations were made with an emphasis on two test plots of the associations mentioned. Our attention was mainly focused on the analysis of the phenomenon «Verhagerung». This German term has no English equivalent; it means all the changes in the soil caused by regular removal of litter by the wind. The most important factors are the carrying away of ions and organic matter, as well as an increase of soil density.
