Development of Bioengineered Porcine Small Intestinal Submucosal Scaffolds for Reconstructive Surgery

2015
Porcine small intestinal submucosa has been used widely for reconstruction of various tissues and organs. It is an excellent choice for tissue engineering and clinical application. Despite this, some factors present in the small intestinal submucosa have the capacity to evoke severe immune reaction. In this study we described decellularization of small intestinal submucosa and subsequent seeding of decellularized scaffold with rabbit mesenchymal stem cells (r-MSC) with an attempt to eliminate immune reaction.
