Image Quality Comparison of Various Adaptive Beamforming Algorithms: A Survey Study of Adaptive Beamforming for Medical Ultrasonic Imaging

2016
Medical ultrasonic imaging has been a widely used clinical diagnostic technique for years. Recently, adaptive beamforming has been well considered as a promising solution to improve the imaging quality of medical ultrasonic scanners. This paper focuses on the image quality study of various minimum-variance adaptive beamforming algorithms. In order to evaluate the imaging quality of each minimum-variance adaptive beamforming algorithm, experiments were conducted based on the simulated input echo data from Field II simulator. The paper tested two image quality aspects, image resolution and image contrast, for the image quality evaluations.
