Psychological Health Status of 383 Middle-aged Teachers

Objective: To understand the psychological health status of middle-aged teachers and to provide scientific basis for prevention of mental disease in this population.Methods: Data of 383 middle-aged teachers were collected by using cluster-stratified sampling method.The mental health status indicated as factor scores of SCL-90 was analyzed and compared with those of 383 controls by using t test and variance analysis.Results: Of these middle-aged teachers,4.7% had different kinds of psychological problems.The psychological status of them was generally better than the average of the state.The somatization scores of female teachers were higher than those of males(P0.01).The scores of somatization,obsession,dumps,antagonize,crankimess and psychotics in teachers were significantly higher than those in control population.Conclusions: The mental health status of middle-aged teachers is better than that of state norm.Compared with non-teacher population,middle-aged teachers need special attention to their psychological health.
