Team Based Learning

2010
Team based learning (TBL) is one of a learning method. It is recently applied for health science and medical education. TBL improves the efficacy of learning by applying the theory and personal environment. Three principles of TBL are individual and group accountability, need and opportunity for group interaction, and motivation to engage in giving and taking discussion. In this method, there are three phases: pre-class preparation, readiness assurance, and application of course concepts. The individual test and group test are done in readiness assurance phase. For effectiveness of this method, the instructor should emphasize persuasion individual and group accountability, individual and group assignment, encourage the “give and take” discussion. The advantages of the TBL compare with problem based learning are a larger number of learners or low number of the instructors relate to that of the learners, including less time to learn in the class.
