Spatially transformed pulse forming networks

1990
The spatial realization of pulse forming networks (PFNs) is described. Use is made of the idea that all one needs to describe the output pulse of a passive network is the impedance or the reactance function, usually in the frequency domain. This idea is exploited to synthesize PFNs in the spatial domain. The most attractive aspect of this technique is that all of the capacitance values may be the same. This greatly simplifies the design and construction of a spatially transformed pulse forming network (STPFN). The particular STPFN described consists only of sources. With STPFNs it is feasible that certain effects such as voltage droop in a desired square wave pulse due to a nonconstant or decreasing load impedance can be corrected. >
