PROCESS DESIGN OF ADVANCED STORAGE-TREATMENT FACILITIES FOR CSO CONTROL

1994
Increasing focus on the abatement of combined sewer overflow has produced considerable interest in new and innovative control approaches. Particular attention has fallen upon the application of high rate physical-chemical processes as part of integrated CSO storage treatment schemes. The extensive experience gained during a recent study in Metropolitan Toronto, Canada is used to describe and illustrate a systematic planning and preliminary design procedure for high rate CSO treatment facilities. The procedures includes five basic steps starting with catchment characterization and process flow sheet development and including process evaluation studies, comprehensive modelling and estimation of costs and performance.
