Enhancing ionic conductivity of glass-type electrolyte by strategically increasing the concentration of charge carrier

2020
Abstract Understanding ionic conduction and improving ionic conductivity of glass-type electrolyte remain great challenge because of their disordered structure in comparation with crystal-type electrolyte. Here we enhanced ionic conductivity of glass-type Li10P3S12I electrolyte through strategy increasing the concentration of charge carrier. By mixing and sintering extra Li2S with Li10P3S12I, the ionic conductivity of Li10+xP3S12+x/2I was enhanced to 7.9 mS/cm at 25 °C and a low activation energy of 0.20 eV was achieved when x equals to 0.5. Solid state 7Li NMR characterization differentiated different glass phases in the glass Li10+xP3S12+x/2I samples and shows that Li2S and Li10P3S12I formed solid solution when x ≤ 0.5, which explains the optimized conductivity of Li10+xP3S12+x/2I.
