SHORT REPORTS a-TRUXILLIC ACID FROM HA,!JMIUM VERTICZLLATUM

trans-Cinnamic acid and its head-to-tail dimer, r-truxillic acid have been isolated in the form of the methyl esters fro- H~imium ~e~rici~~~~urn. X-Ray structure determination has been done on the methyl-a-truxiilate. In earlier papers (l-33, we have shown that Halimium verticillatum contains diterpenoids, some of which are esterified with truns-cinnamic acid. Here we report the isolation, not only of truns-cinnamic acid, but also of !xt- truxiliic acid for which spectroscopic data and X-ray data of its methyl ester are given.
