A MILD AND EFFICIENT SYNTHESIS OF BENZIMIDAZOLE BY USING ZINC SULPHATE SOLVENT FREE CONDITION

The ring system in which a benzene ring is fused to the 4,5�positions of imidazole is designated as benzimidazole. Benzimidazoles derivatives have been synthesized using a catalytic amount of Zinc acetate at room temperature by using mortar and pestle with excellent yields . The remarkable selectivity under mild, neutral and solvent free conditions, commercially available inexpensive catalyst is an attractive feature of this method.
