Provided is a method for efficiently producing a compound represented by formula II, namely (2S)-2-hydroxyarbekacin or a salt thereof from (2S)-2-hydroxydibekacin represented by formula I or a salt thereof, which is characterized by using a compound represented by formula III or a salt thereof as a synthetic intermediate.
