MONITORED PERFORMANCE OF A SOLAR HEATING SYSTEM WITH ANNUAL HEAT STORAGE - THE AYLMER SENIOR CITIZENS’ APARTMENT

1986
ABSTRACT The monitored performance of a solar space and water heating system incorporating annual heat storage is presented. Comparisons are made between design estimates and monitored results, with reasons given for any discrepancies. The system was found to deliver 18% less energy than the design estimate. The lower performance was largely caused by the method of heat delivery which results in the storage tank operating at a higher temperature than necessary for optimum system performance.
