USING A NEW CO-INITIATOR SYSTEM TO SYNTHESIZE P(DMDAAC-AM)

2005
P(DMDAAC-AM), a new organic polymer flocculant, was prepared in this study by radical polymerization in aqueous solution , using a new co-initiator system. The effects of the factors such as purity of monomers, initiators concentration, polymerization temperature, drying temperature, and polymerization time onproducts performance were studied. The results show that the purity of monomers has a great effect on the molecular weights of the polymers. The purer the monomers, the larger the molecular weights of the polymers. But the other factors have an optimum for the molecular weights of the polymers, respectively. The structure of the polymer and it saggregation in aqueous solution and the surface of dried product were examined by means of various instrumental analysis techniques, including IR, TEM and SEM.
