Effect of tensile overload on fatigue crack behavior of 2205 duplex stainless steel: Experiment and finite element simulation

2019
Abstract The effect of tensile overload on fatigue crack behaviors of 2205 duplex stainless steel has been studied by experimental and finite element methods (FEM). The residual stresses were measured by neutron diffraction technique and simulated by FEM. The results show that the fatigue crack propagation is obviously delayed due to larger residual plastic strain caused by overload. Both the magnitude and region of compressive residual stress increase correspondingly. The retardation region caused by overload is well characterized by the peak position difference of residual stress. The retardation region is closely related with the overload ratio, overload position and load ratio.
