Determination of the parameters of an active-passive liquid system for stopping a reactor

2008
An active-passive liquid system based on water solutions of boric acid and/or gadolinium nitrate that can operate without the participation of an operator and a controlling safety system is studied. The neutron-physical efficiency of the absorbers is estimated (the experiments were performed on a bench at the Russian Science Center Kurchatov Institute and computational studies were performed at the Research and Design Institute of Electric Technology), the concentrations are chosen, and the technological parameters, the required tank sizes, the diameters of the pipelines, and the influx and efflux times of the liquid absorber in the loop are determined.
