Effect of hot deformation on the formation of the cube texture in annealed Cu-Ni-W substrate

Abstract Cu based alloy tapes with high strength, sharp Cube texture and non-ferromagnetism are the potential substrates for coated superconductors. Cu-Ni-W initial alloy ingot was prepared by melting and casting combined with forging and hot rolling. The effect of hot rolling on the formation of cube texture in Cu-Ni-W alloy is investigated. Compared with the texture after the forging process, the intensity of Cube texture in the hot rolled sheet is enhanced by hot rolling. The alloy sheets are fabricated by cold rolling and subsequent recrystallization annealing. The rolling textures and recrystallization textures of Cu-Ni-W alloy tapes are characterized. The cold rolled textures in the tapes with and without hot rolling are dominated by Copper and S textures. The sharp Cube texture develops during the recrystallization annealing, and the hot rolling is more beneficial for the formation of low angle grain boundaries. Moreover, the tape with sharp cube exhibits paramagnetic behavior at 77 K, which is desirable in alternating current.
