A novel calibration procedure of laser induced plasma spectroscopy for quantitative bulk analyses of archaeological bronzes

2015
Here, the effectiveness of a new calibration model for the characterization of archaeological bronze artefacts using laser induced plasma spectroscopy is demonstrated. Deep depth profiles are mandatory in the analysis of archaeological bronzes where intentional patinations and corrosion phenomena may significantly have altered the composition of their outer layers up to several hundreds of micrometers. The work shows that the standard calibration curves approach may produce errors in the quantitative analysis, which are corrected using 2D calibration surfaces.
