Refraktif Cerrahiye Aday Hastalarda Bilgi ve Beklenti Düzeyi Üzerine Bir Çalışma

2008
Objectives: To determine the knowledge and expectation level of the health worker and non-health worker refractive surgery candidates and to define the difference between groups, if present. Material and Methods: Fifty-five health worker, eighty-two non-health worker refractive surgery candidates who were admitted between June 2006-October 2006 were included into the study. The age, sex, education levels were determined and a questionnaire was given to the participant in order to detect the knowledge and expectations from the refractive surgery. Results: There was no statistical difference between two groups in respect to mean age and mean refractive error, knowledge about refractive surgery, the source of knowledge, the cause of ambition and the reluctance for surgery (P>0.005). However, in health worker group tendency to use contact lens instead of refractive surgery was statistically higher than non-health worker group (P= 0.019). Conclusion: There was no statistical significant difference between the health worker and non-health worker refractive surgery candidates in respect to knowledge and expectation. The probable reason of this might be the advertisements in visual and written broadcasting that give knowledge about refractive surgery. © 2008, Firat University, Medical Faculty.
