AMERICAN INDIAN TRANSPORTATION: ISSUES AND SUCCESSFUL MODELS

1996
This Technical Assistance Brief begins to raise some of the important transportation-related issues faced by American Indians: sovereignty, funding, coordination, computerization and economic growth. Successful models are highlighted, from Mississippi, Arizona, Wyoming and Oklahoma, as real-life examples of ongoing efforts to provide transportation to Indians living in extremely rural settings. Important funding sources are described, for start-up and continuing transit service. Human and printed resources are offered, including the RTAP National Resource Center's hotline.
