Analysing Chinese Investments in Malaysia

The key features of the seven case studies are reviewed, with specific focus on the institutional architecture under which these projects functioned and the financial-industrial linkages that were created. In the early stage of these high-risk ventures, though with extremely high potential economic outcomes, sources of funding were important. This chapter also reviews the role of the state, including where decision-making power was situated in each of these ventures and if it functioned in a helping hand, invisible hand or grabbing hand manner or a combination of these hands.
