Synthesis and Structure of a 1,8-Naphthyridine-N-Monoxide Complex with Neodymium Perchlorate

1990
Abstract The complex Nd(napyo)4(ClO4)3 was formed by the reaction of neodymium perchlorate with 1,8-naphthyridine-N-monoxide (napyo) in methanol. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c with Z = 12. Lattice parameters are a = 29.026(6), b = 10.480(2), c = 37.530(8) A, β = 100.97(1)[Ggrave], V= 11208(4)A3, Dc = 1.83 gem−3, Do = 1.82 gem−3, μ = 11.48cm−1 (MoKa), F(000) = 6516. The structure was solved and refined to R = 0.067 for 6441 independent reflections with I ≥ 3 σ (I). The compound contains two types of complex cation; [N'd(napyo)4]3+, with C 2 symmetry, and [Nd(napyo)4OClO3]2 + with C 1 symmetry. The average Nd-N and Nd-O bond lengths are 2.610 A and 2.383 A for [Nd(napyo)4]3 + with an 8-coordinate Nd3 + ion and 2.638 A and 2.464 A for [Nd(napyo)4 - OCIO3]2+ with a 9-coordinate Nd3 + ion, respectively.
