Literature survey: sodium, antimony and bismuth in Al-Si melts; problems during modification of aluminium melts containing Sb or Bi; effects of antimony on the partition of the volume deficit during solidification. Experimental parameters and procedure: chemical composition of the alloys, melting and degassing technique; moulding materials and geometry of the test pieces; determination of the chemical composition; preparation of stepped plates and evaluation of the test pieces. Results and discussion: chemical analyses.
