STABILITY CRITERIA FOR PRESENT-DAY SHIP DESIGNS

1986
The introduction of a form factor "c" as a design parameter for dry cargo ships has made it possible to assess their stability in such a way as to take into account individually and in order of their significance, the parameters determined by tank tests, i.e. principal dimensions, KG and hull form. The paper examines the implications of the new method for the minimum stability requirements of the Classification Societies. For the example of three ships with widely differing B/D ratios, the effect of the new method is demonstrated and compared with the requirements that have existed so far.
