Pituitary Interstitial Irradiation for Cushing's Disease and Acromegaly

1991
For 30 years interstitial irradiation (by needle implantation) with either gold-198 (198Au) or yttrium-90 (90Y) has been used as a method of treating pituitary tumors at Hammersmith Hospital, London. We have recently published our long-term results of pituitary implantation for both Cushing’s disease (Sandler et al. 1987) and acromegaly (Jadresic et al. 1987), and these data form the basis of this report. Our long-term follow-up of patients with macroprolactinomas treated with 90Y is currently being analysed.
