Timing properties of long scintillationcounters based on scintillatingfibers

The lightoutput and timing characteristicsof a scintillationcounter constructed of plastic scintillatingfibersare compared to those of a counter with identical transverse cross section of 2 cm X 3 cm made of bulk scintillator . It is shown that the tiring resolutionat long distances isbetterfor the fiber than for the bulk scintillator .The improvement isa factorof 1.8ata distance of 2 m from the phototube .
