Multiple in-vehicle intelligent transport systems: update on the Australian TAC SafeCar project

2003
In Melbourne, Australia, a research program is currently underway that is designed to evaluate behavioural adaptation to, and driver acceptability of, several in-vehicle intelligent transport systems (ITS). Fifteen Ford passenger cars have been fitted with a suite of ITS. This paper describes the final human-machine interface design and functional configuration of the systems in the "SafeCars", provides an overview of the final experimental design, and describes the procedure and tools being used to measure driver acceptability of the systems. Some early results, pertaining to the acceptability of one of the ITS systems, are also presented.
