Binding Journals in Tight Times

SUMMARY Despite heavy reliance on electronic resources, academic libraries still need to manage print journal collections. Although archiving of online content is unresolved, declining library budgets are putting pressure on libraries to stop buying and binding print. Budget concerns are forcing libraries to review traditional binding decisions and their impact on collections and workflow. The University of Toledo Libraries developed a strategy to address a radical cut to its binding budget. Bowling Green State University Libraries, facing ongoing budget cuts and work redesign, are developing plans to cut binding expenditures.
